Trimester dates by course
There are three trimesters per calendar year. Each trimester lasts four months. Two trimesters are equal to one full academic year.
Deakin’s trimesters run from:

I had fantastic lecturers who were knowledgeable and brought real-life, in-practice experience to the learning environment. I attribute a lot of my passion for my career to the lecturers responsible for my education.
The staff are outstanding: supportive, approachable, and deeply knowledgeable. The connections with other students have been equally valuable, creating networks that have extended well beyond the classroom. The highlight of the JD has been how it consistently integrates theory, practice, policy and participating in the Law Clinic.
I was able to work full time whilst changing careers through studying the Juris Doctor. It supported me to gain a highly competitive role at a mid-tier law firm in Melbourne CBD and finish my degree with a strong network of lawyers, barristers and uni friends.
Deakin helped me develop skills not only to practice law, but also to understand a breadth of human experience and backgrounds. The Deakin Law Clinic was particularly helpful at developing real-world skills to help me in my early years.
I had many opportunities throughout my time at Deakin. My mooting experiences, Law Society, I went to Germany to study legal technology and AI, and to Indonesia to study law, culture and religion. Everything combined has helped me become the best version of myself to put into the job field.
I plan to pursue a career in criminal or family law. My course has built strong analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills. Work-integrated learning has given me practical experience and confidence for real-world legal practice.
