Jean’s journey from health sciences to community impact
Jean’s career was shaped by hands-on experience during her health degree. Through a placement with Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation in Tennant Creek, Jean discovered the power of community-led health promotion. She’s now a Senior Health Promotion Practitioner, creating meaningful impact across communities.

Health promotion officer
Create programs and campaigns that help people and communities improve their health. Use research to identify priority audiences, develop clear health messages and educational resources, deliver presentations, and collaborate with health services, government and community organisations to support healthier lifestyles and prevent disease.
Environmental health officer
Protect communities from environmental risks by monitoring air, food and water quality, investigating public health concerns and enforcing relevant legislation. Work with councils, government agencies and industry to prevent pollution, reduce disease and ensure organisations meet environmental health standards.
Community development officer
Help communities identify their needs and turn ideas into meaningful programs, services and projects. Build partnerships, encourage participation and improve access to housing, recreation and support services. Community development officers often work for councils, government agencies or not-for-profit organisations to create more connected and inclusive communities.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Worker
Support the health and wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples through culturally safe care, education and outreach. Help deliver health assessments and primary care programs, connect clients with services, maintain health records and build cultural understanding among other health professionals.

There are three trimesters per calendar year. Each trimester lasts four months. Two trimesters are equal to one full academic year.
